1990 Brown Tobiano Mare
This grand old girl has been everything you could ask for in a broodmare. She's kind, quiet, beautiful and very well bred. We bought her in SE Oklahoma and she was in heat when we picked her up. We jumped her off the trailer in Montana 2 days later and she got pregnant the next day. And she's bred back every year since!
She is for sale for only one reason. Her age. Although she has more foals in her, we try to sell our mares a few years before they might have trouble in the cold Montana winters. She still winters well, but we don't want to take the chance that she won't in the future.
"Bones" as we call her is our lead mare and she's the kind of lead mare you want to have. Never mean, never obviously aggressive, she keeps everyone in line with a dirty look and a switch of her tail. We will really miss her for that! Only once in all these years have we seen her really let another horse have it - and that mare asked for it! Since Bones has been ruling the broodmares around here, we have had very, very few pasture injuries. If you have a place with a slightly more pampered lifestyle than ours, you'll be very glad you invested in this wonderful mare!
She foaled a nice solid sorrel colt on May 5th. Since she has had 5 foals in a row without a break, we choose not to breed her for 2008. It's not that we couldn't get her pregnant again, we did not get her near a stud. And she really has earned a year off!
NOTE: We have had several inquiries about this mare asking if she can be ridden. As far as we know, she hasn't been ridden since she left the track 15 years ago. We are selling her as a broodmare only, please. Sold! Congratulations to Dan and Judy Simonson, Loring, MT!.
